What about ADHD?

As a senior child psychiatrist, I worry about the epidemic of ADHD and ASD diagnoses. The same goes for depression and anxiety. It’s entirely possible your child might have some symptoms of ADHD. But does that mean they need exactly the same treatment as others with that label? Not necessarily. For example, your son’s ADHD may be partly due to genetics or not helped by a poor diet. In which case he may need medicine and other remedies. Your daughter’s anxiety may be driven partly by social media and self-image and she may need rather more help than just prescribed drugs. In other words, there may well be multiple factors at play which is why we need an integrative approach.
