An integrative psychiatric approach for children, families and young people
Meet Dr Richard Fry
MD, MB.BS, MRCPsych, MRCGP, MSc, ACTFT, mIFM
I’m Dr Richard Fry, a child psychiatrist in Winchester, Hampshire. Formerly a GP, I’ve been practising for over 30 years both in the NHS and privately. I believe we live in an increasingly stressed, toxic and poorly-fed world and that our mental health is affected by all manner of things: genetics, life experiences, lifestyle, family background, upbringing, diet and many more…
Diagnosis & Treatment
I run a practice that is considerate, attentive and friendly – an overlooked part of any treatment and one that’s fundamental to our ethos. Children are often scared, anxious or resistant to talking, especially to doctors. As parents ourselves (and every one of us here is), we understand just how difficult situations can be and we care deeply about making our patients better and happier. We provide assessments, diagnoses and treatments for the conditions below. Please enquire if you don’t see yours listed:
Assessments
Today, we run serious risks of over-diagnosis and over-medicalisation. Schools pressurise parents to get assessments. Exam boards demand clinical assessments of a child’s psychiatric, not necessarily medical, problems. And so the situation escalates.
If an assessment is all you want and need, I will provide one. But ticking boxes alone merely results in a label, not a treatment. And patients need to be guided back to health, not to a life of medication.
Our Comprehensive Integrative Medical Assessments are the speciality of our practice. Rather than simplistic diagnostic categories, we look at the whole person, taking into account pre, peri-natal and developmental experiences, family, school and social contexts and physical and metabolic contributory factors.
