Meet Dr Richard Fry
MD, MB.BS, MRCPsych, MRCGP, MSc, ACTFT, mIFM
I’m Dr Richard Fry, a child psychiatrist in Winchester, Hampshire. Formerly a GP, I’ve been practising for over 30 years both in the NHS and privately. I believe we live in an increasingly stressed, toxic and poorly-fed world and that our mental health is affected by all manner of things: genetics, life experiences, lifestyle, family background, upbringing, diet and many more. So my approach when diagnosing mental health is to treat the whole person. You’d assume all psychiatrists might do the same. But surprisingly, many don’t.
I started practising what’s called ‘Integrative Psychiatry’ because I was concerned by the amount of drugs I was being asked to prescribe for children whose problems were clearly social and environmental. Often, this medication didn’t work so I resolved to find a better way, involving fewer pharmaceuticals. I therefore now treat my patients holistically, assembling and connecting jigsaw pieces of information about nutrition, toxic loads, genetics and any factors that may be exacerbating symptoms to form a more complete picture and bring about a more effective prognosis.
So be aware: I might well prescribe medications. But I will be equally prescriptive about what you eat, how you sleep, what you do to recharge and how you live day-to-day – more common sense in other words, and less of the common quick fixes like Ritalin or antidepressants. I try to use the best of both conventional and alternative views, together. Of course, you may prefer a more conventional treatment. In which case there are many excellent conventional psychiatrists available. Meanwhile, I look forward to finding ways to make you or a family member feel altogether better and altogether more complete as soon as possible

Meet the Team
There are many outstanding psychiatric practices in the UK. But few of them can match the experience, support and the fast email response times that we offer. We also have a select network of therapists and professionals working with us, some of whom have been with me since I began the practice in 2005. It’s a team that socialises frequently (often sharing fish and chips in meetings that have become known as ‘psychips’). We’ve found that the closer we work together, the more attentive we can be to your needs.
